Glimepiride may increase your risk of serious heart problems, but not treating your diabetes can also damage your heart and other organs. Your medication dosage may need to be increased. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medication.

Breast-feeding while using this medication is not recommended. For these reasons, your doctor may start you at a lower dose of glimepiride.
